The fluttering prayer flag ( LUNGTA) are actually colorful cotton squares in white , blue , yellow , green , and red colors with Shakyamuni Buddha images and mantras on it. The word Lungta for a Tibetan itself means fortune or good luck. Tibetans believe that the prayers and mantras will be blown upwards as Offering to their deities and will bring fortune , happiness and good health to all who hang them as well as their families , loved ones, neighbors and all the people throughout the world including even enemies.

Shakyamuni is an honorific of the historical Buddha, meaning “Sage of the Shakyans,” the Shakyans being the tribal republic where the Buddha-to be was born. The term “Buddha” is itself an honorific, meaning Awakened One, and Shakyamuni’s actual name was Siddhartha Gotama.
